It's not just for prisms...
A pair of prisms with equal base areas and heights presents a simple, familiar example of shapes to which Cavalieri's principle may be applied. However, prisms are not the only shapes that have the characteristics stated in the principle.

What other shapes with equal base areas and heights could have cross-sections of the same area at every height?

The image below provides a faint clue that two pyramids could have these characteristics, but there are other valid responses as well. After allowing students to ponder this for a while (whether for a few seconds or overnight as a homework assignment), reveal the example (or a similar one) shown on the next slide.
